This course is designed to help Child Development Associate candidates meet the training requirement of 120 hours of child development coursework. CDA is a nationally recognized credential awarded to people who demonstrate competence in caring for children by completing the CDA assessment process. This course will focus on the eight credential topics and the thirteen functional areas needed to support the development of the nine competency statements and the creation of the candidate’s professional portfolio. The themes for the instructional sessions align with the CDA functional areas: Safe, Healthy, Leading Environments, Physical, Cognitive, Communication, Creative, Self, Social, Guidance, Families, Program Management, and Professionalism.

This CDA course will meet for 60 hours to cover topics including early learning environments, families, early childhood development, health planning, social-emotional development, child planning, and effective teaching and learning.

Reminder: This course is one of two course series to fulfill the 120-hour training requirements.

Participants will receive a certificate for only the hours attended after completing this course.  Please keep track of your time and attendance. 

Adult Learning Theory

Training Objectives: 

  • To build knowledge into practice, create items and plan tools to implement effective teaching practices.
  • To develop a teaching approach using methods and evidence-based resources to support teaching and learning.

Camera and Audio with internet connection are required.

Attendance: Participants must register for this training series and are expected to attend workshops as scheduled. Certificates will reflect the actual time of attendance. Refunds will not be issued for time and attendance for which the participant was not present. Attendance is of the highest importance. Each participant is responsible for their attendance. No refunds will be issued. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each training session and a headcount will be conducted at the end of the session. Participation and interactions are encouraged. Makeup plans are scheduled when facility, concerns, or weather does not permit for the training session to be conducted. Hours include a Short Beak and Closing Assessment. Zoom camera must be on at appropriate times for active engagement.
