This workshop addresses the value of knowing early childcare and the families that we serve. It begins with defining families and honoring each family as unique members of the childcare community. We will use questions to engage in inquiry as we explore meaningful methods to engage and work with families. By working with families’ caregivers assist in making decisions about learning environments, routines, scheduled, methods of care and instructions. These teaching practices are shared with parents who are their child primary caregiver and teacher for the children we work with.

Goal: To discuss methods used to promote home to school connections, to share knowledge using two-way communications, discuss the educator’s role in getting to know children in the context of their family.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To reflect and define what we know about families.
  2. To build and inform which methods are effective when communication and inform create at framework for reporting information to parents; indicate how to used two way communication with parents.
