The purpose of this training is to assist educators in their role of mandated reporting. To provide educators with the knowledge and skills to identify and report to child abuse or maltreatment/neglect to the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment-Child Abuse Hotline in the role of a mandated reporter. This training includes lectures and activities to develop knowledge of and skills relative to identifying and reporting child abuse and maltreatment. This training is approx. 4 hours in length.

Goals

To provide educators with the knowledge and skills to identify and report to child abuse or maltreatment/neglect to the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment-Child Abuse Hotline in the role of a mandated reporter.

To discuss and review the professional who are mandated by law to report cases of suspected child abuse and maltreatment/neglect. To meet the training standards for professional development training requirements.  To review the resource guide to using as a reference tool when the mandated reporter is in need to make a report to the State Central Registry.

To effectively report child abuse or maltreatment/neglect to the NYS Central Register SCR of Child Abuse and maltreatment, also known as the child abuse hotline.

Describe how they would evaluate situations to determine whether there is reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or maltreatment/neglect. Define the steps mandated reports will take to evaluate situations to suspect child abuse or maltreatment/neglect.

Identify the physical and behavioral indicators commonly associated with child abuse and maltreatment/neglect.

Describe the legal framework for the New York State Child Protective System. State their role in being a mandated reporter.
